Unsung heroes of HKL

The meals are ready to be taken to the wards to be served to patients.

KUALA Lumpur Hospital (HKL), one of the oldest in the country, is able to treat and care for thousands of patients, not only because of the doctors, nurses and medical support staff, but also a special, behind-the-scenes department which makes sure everyone is well fed.

The Dietetic & Food Services Department might be inconspicuous to most patients, but those who work in and around the hospital appreciate the hard work and effort put into all the cooking that goes on like clockwork in “The Kitchen”, which serves up more than 2,000 healthy and nutritious meals, three times a day for the patients, healthcare professionals and support staff.

Manisih Wabiyo, 60, has been working as an assistant cook at HKL’s Dietetic and Food Services Department for 30 years.
Protein-rich fish and chicken are on the menu too.
